INTRODUCTION

Background
to the Study
Entrepreneurial
training remains a pivot upon which the wheels of the society revolve. Aladekomo,
(2004) defined training as the process of learning to live as a useful and
acceptable member of the society. From this definition, it is obvious that the
essence of training is functionality. Entrepreneurial training emphasized on
acquisition of appropriate skills and the development of mental, physical and
social abilities and competencies as equipment for the individual to live in
and contribute to the development of the society Ariyo, (2005).
The essence of entrepreneurial
training programme is to ensure that relevant
knowledge, skills and attitude needed for students socio economic development is
achieved. The inability of the graduates to contribute meaningfully to the
economic development of the nation by being self-employed was what informed the
introduction of Entrepreneurial training and education in schools Maria M (2010). The relationship between entrepreneurial
training and socio economics development of students in faculty of arts and
education cannot be overemphasized as the call for the introduction of
Entrepreneurship training is an
indication of its importance in the students socio economic development, empowerment
and job creation in particular Onyeachu, (2008).
This training has
become necessary as Nigeria continues to churn out graduates that are hardly
self-reliant but solely dependent on white collar jobs. According to Onoja, A. O and Agumagu, A. C.
(2009), Entrepreneurial training is the kind of training given to students or people
with a view to developing Entrepreneurship qualities properly followed up with
support services for smooth take off and successful running of business.
In a similar vein, Oyelola,
O. T. (2010) stressed that entrepreneurial training seeks to provide students
(especially those in tertiary institutions) with the knowledge, skills and
motivation to encourage students’ socio economic development. From these
assertions, it is obvious that a well implemented entrepreneurial training has
a significant correlation or relationship between socio economic development of
students, not only in faculty of arts and education but to all other faculties
Garba, (2014).
The essence of
Entrepreneurial training is to build in the students Entrepreneurship spirit
and culture, thus increasing the spiritual, political, social, educational,
gender, or economic strength of students and communities. It is perceived that a
well planned and implemented entrepreneurial education is capable of creating
more jobs in the country and redirecting the focus of the unemployed graduates
Okebukola, P.A.O. (2012).
Entrepreneurial training
has continued to feature as a captivating theme in local summits and
international conferences because of its potency as tool for mitigating
unemployment and other social-economic challenges inhibiting sustainable
development among fresh graduates and in all parts of the globe. Inclusion of
entrepreneurial training into curricula of tertiary institutions will be of
immense benefits to students before and after graduation Olaiya, (2011).
