What is a case?
Solution
A case is a practical or real life
situation confronting management in an organization. It is used to facilitate the understanding of
strategic management and policies formulation by placing students to the role
of executives in the real life scenario.
The primary aim of case studies is to
assess the situation presented in the case through adequate case analysis,
diagnose the problem confronting the organization and make viable
recommendation or suggestion by assuming the role of strategic management.

case analysis
Solution:
a.
Preparing for a case: This involves ensuring adequate time and
attention is given for the case;
b.
Read the case at least twice: First reading is to give overview of the
special circumstances and issues confronting the organization while the second
reading is to concentrate and understand the relevant information, data and
salient presented in the case;
c.
Concentrate on the salient issue in the
case; Salient issues are peculiar issues confronting the organization which
require the recommendation of the management;
d.
Do not overlook exhibits: Exhibits are data attached to case to
complement the facts expressed in the case.
They form the integral part of case analysis
e.
Adopt a time frame: The analysis of the
case should be based on the relevant year
f.
Draw from your total knowledge: Knowledge is required to be derived from the
general understanding of the business line or industry of the case studies.
